She elaborated:

“Today, on the commemoration of the genocide of the Pontic Greeks, we honour the hundreds of thousands of innocent victims who were exterminated or forcibly displaced from their ancestral homes 105 years ago during the Ottoman Empire.

At the same time, we recognise the significant contribution of Pontic Hellenism to the recovery and development of the Greek state, as it brought its dynamism and values to the motherland.

Every nation has a duty to protect historical memory. The international community must also recognise and condemn heinous crimes against humanity to prevent similar barbaric acts in the future.”
