In their full statement, SYRIZA-PS declared:

“For months, we have been calling for a ceasefire in the Middle East, respect for International Law and UN resolutions, and recognition of the Palestinian state. The European leadership, the US, and the Greek government have shown particular tolerance for the crimes committed during Israel’s genocidal invasion of Gaza and the dangerous escalation of the war. Kyriakos Mitsotakis did not say a single word about the unfolding crisis in our wider region during his UN address.

The conflict now threatens to spill over into Lebanon, with Israel’s actions heightening the risk of a broader regional conflict.

The Greek government must take immediate diplomatic initiatives to advocate for a ceasefire, and must clearly distance itself from the far-right policies of Netanyahu’s government. The European Union, in turn, should heed the voices of European citizens who oppose Israel’s military actions, rather than suppress them.

SYRIZA-PS urges all necessary pressure to be applied to achieve peace and a ceasefire, the return of hostages, the resumption of negotiations based on UN resolutions, the reconstruction of Gaza, and the recognition of a Palestinian state.”
