The Greek Fire Department reports that 570 firefighters, supported by 28 forest commando teams and 160 vehicles, are working to contain the blaze. At first light, six helicopters, including one for coordination, and four aeroplanes resumed aerial firefighting efforts.
Since Tuesday, October 1st, the European Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) has deployed three CL-415 firefighting planes, two from Italy and one from Croatia, to assist in battling the fire.
The blaze, which began on Sunday morning in Rozena Xylokastro, Corinthia, has grown into a 32-kilometer front, causing immense ecological devastation. Tragically, two men, aged 40 and 35, lost their lives in the flames.
