Romanos, a prominent anarchist and activist, was arrested on 18 November in connection with an explosion at a third-floor apartment in Ampelokipi, Athens. He appeared before a prosecutor on 19 November. According to his lawyer, Romanos categorically denies any involvement in the case or association with the other suspects.

In a statement shared by Mr. Thalassis, Romanos’ parents expressed their concerns:

“From Nikos’ parents and from me personally,
Especially to conscientious journalists and producers:
Let us collectively, through publications, voices, and declarations, assert that Nikos Romanos—whom I firmly believe, and who has assured me personally—has no connection with this particular apartment or its residents.

Until Friday, when he will give his testimony, it is crucial to strengthen public confidence in his innocence.

The investigating officer must not impose pretrial detention, which could result in years of imprisonment before his trial.

Nikos is vulnerable and deeply troubled. He should not be made to pay for the irregularities in Tempe or the Samaras expulsion. That is what he is paying for now. This is [TN: Minister of Citizen Protection] Chrysochoidis’ plan.”

Romanos’ parents have called for widespread support to ensure that justice prevails and to challenge what they see as politically motivated targeting of their son.
