The operation, coordinated by the Unified Search and Rescue Coordination Center, has so far located 36 individuals, while three people were rescued from a rocky shoreline by a Coast Guard gunboat.
Participating in the operation are a gunboat, a lifeboat, a Coast Guard vessel, as well as an aircraft and helicopter of the Hellenic Coast Guard. Land forces of the Hellenic Police are also assisting.
Strong winds of 5-6 Beaufort in the area are complicating the work of the rescue teams. Searches continue under challenging conditions, as hope remains for finding more survivors.
