Mayor Yiannis Korentsidis submitted a formal request to the region of Western Macedonia, which forwarded the case to central authorities on 22 November. The emergency decree, which takes effect immediately, will remain in force for three months, until 19 February 2026, to allow rapid mobilisation of crews and resources to repair infrastructure and manage the consequences of the extreme weather.

Officials said the storm caused significant agricultural losses, with bean, corn and clover crops especially hard hit. The municipality has sent an urgent appeal to the national agricultural insurer, ELGA, requesting immediate financial support for producers whose incomes have been severely affected.

Kastoria’s administration said it would work closely with the region, civil protection and other competent services to co-ordinate relief and recovery operations as quickly as possible.
