Quoting the farmer’s mother – “I lost a young man… they killed our sheep. A thousand sheep and lambs together… He went and hanged himself today” – ANTARSYA argues that the tragedy reflects the unbearable pressure faced by small farmers whose livelihoods are wiped out overnight.

According to the statement, the slaughter of infected flocks has “exceeded all limits,” with deaths of livestock farmers passing quietly amid deep despair. ANTARSYA notes that suicide rates among farmers are rising internationally, citing France and India as examples.

The party describes the animals as “his entire life and dignity,” insisting that the grief of the roughly 2,000 farmers who lost their herds must become a collective, organised response against policies that “destroy lives.”

ANTARSYA calls the death in Vrontou not an isolated tragedy but a political failure: “Let us not allow any more suicides-murders. This pain is not personal, it is collective.”

Expressing condolences to the family, the party urges farmers, workers and youth to form a common front.

“Let us transform disappointment, anger and indignation into a massive, hopeful struggle against the politics of profit, poverty, authoritarianism and war. Let the wretched government and the system it serves fall,” the statement concludes.
