Speaking at the rally, KKE secretary general Dimitris Koutsoumbas said the intervention was fuelling further tension across the Middle East and endangering the wider region. He accused the Greek government of bearing ‘criminal responsibility’ for its participation in the attack through the US-NATO military bases on Greek soil, citing the Souda base in Crete, Alexandroupoli and Larissa, and called for their immediate closure. He also called on Greece to withdraw from any involvement in the war and to cease supporting the governments of Israel and the United States.
Mobilisations are continuing with picket lines and rallies in Chania, Rethymno and Heraklion. Organisers stressed that the only path out of war lies through popular action and organised resistance to imperialism.
