Communist Party demands answers over Ukrainian naval drone in Lefkada
The KKE said the government must explain what the Ukrainian drone was doing in Greek territorial waters, what its objective was, and whether it knew which operational plan it formed part of.
It also asked whether the government had agreed behind closed doors to cede Greek territory to Ukraine, described by the party as a Euro-Atlantic ‘ally’, for the conduct of military operations, and whether other similar drones belonging to other ‘allies’ are operating in Greek waters.
The KKE stressed that the government bears very serious responsibility, arguing that ‘the “anything goes” approach to military involvement in Euro-Atlantic plans exposes our country and our people to unforeseen and grave dangers’.
The party’s statement reads:
‘The government must provide answers here and now regarding the detection of a Ukrainian naval drone filled with explosives in Lefkada. What was the Ukrainian naval drone doing in Greek territorial waters? What was its purpose? Did the Greek government know whether it was part of an operational plan, and if so, which one? Has it agreed behind closed doors to grant the Euro-Atlantic “ally” Ukraine Greek territory for conducting military operations? Are other similar drones belonging to other “allies” operating in Greek territorial waters?
‘The government has very serious responsibilities because, as it turns out, the “anything goes” approach to military involvement in Euro-Atlantic plans exposes our country and our people to unforeseen and grave dangers.’
