In a post, the health minister boasted that he had attended the Israeli embassy event ‘with great joy’, adding openly that he believes ‘Israel is a true miracle of humanity’. Ignoring the fact that it is committing genocide and has been accused by international organisations of committing war crimes against Palestinians, the minister said he admires Israel for its GDP.
‘In an area the size of the Peloponnese, they managed to create a state with a GDP equal to two Greeces,’ he wrote.
He continued, without shame: ‘A state that stands out worldwide as a leader in high technology, IT, agriculture, science, etc. A state that supports its friends and punishes its enemies.’
At a time when Israel continues its genocide in Palestine, bombs southern Lebanon, displacing tens of thousands of people, and abducts Global Sumud Flotilla activists in violation of international maritime law, Georgiadis flattered it by claiming that it ‘has the most mature and complete democracy in the Middle East, with multi-party governments and full respect for the rights of all its citizens’.
Going even further, he continued: ‘You will find many Arab Muslim Israeli citizens who thrive there, but not a single Jew who can even go for a walk in Gaza.’
‘Today, Israel is one of Greece’s closest friends and our strategic co-operation is a huge support for us,’ he added.
He concluded: ‘I want to make special mention of the excellent presence over the last four years of their Ambassador, who is leaving this summer having completed his term. He contributed decisively to the further development of our bilateral relations in difficult times.’
