The request follows recent statements by Dilian, the founder of Intellexa, regarding Predator spyware. In comments to Efimerida ton Syntakton, Dilian said that his company ‘sells technology to government agencies, without interfering in the use of the system’.

PASOK’s request states:

‘Mr President,

‘We ask you, in accordance with Article 43A of the Rules of Procedure of the Hellenic Parliament, to summon Mr Tal Dilian, founder and head of companies associated with the Predator malware case, as well as Mr Grigoris Dimitriadis, former secretary general of the prime minister’s office, to a special meeting of the Special Standing Committee on Institutions and Transparency, in order for them to be heard on issues related to the illegal surveillance case, their public statements on it, as well as the broader aspects of the case concerning transparency, accountability and the protection of the rule of law.

‘The need to summon Mr Dilian becomes even more urgent after his recent public statements, in which he states, among other things, that his companies “sell to government agencies in accordance with all required regulations”.

‘These statements, which were made publicly and with full awareness of their gravity, raise serious questions of public interest, which must be investigated within the framework of the prescribed parliamentary scrutiny.

‘For this reason, it is deemed necessary for Mr Dilian to present to the committee any relevant document, contract, licence, certification or other evidence that substantiates his claims regarding the provision of the systems in question to government agencies.

‘Similarly, Mr Grigoris Dimitriadis has made public statements regarding the wiretapping case, stating verbatim that “I assumed political responsibility to protect the government, the secret services, my party, but above all the homeland”.

‘This statement, coming from a person who held a key position at the core of government operations during the critical period, makes it necessary for him to appear before the committee in order to provide clarifications both on the content and scope of the political responsibility that he says he assumed, and on the content of the “protection” that he claims to have offered to the government, the secret services and the New Democracy party.

‘The need for a full clarification of the case had been highlighted through the proposal by the PASOK parliamentary group to establish an investigative committee, which was rejected by the New Democracy parliamentary majority, making it impossible to conduct an in-depth investigation into critical aspects of the case and to examine essential witnesses.

‘Under these circumstances, the summoning of the above persons before the Institutions and Transparency Committee constitutes a necessary institutional action to ensure transparency, accountability and full information for the Hellenic Parliament.’
