The court accepted a proposal by the prosecutor at the hearing, who requested that the trial be postponed until the case file pending before the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) over Contract 717 has been finally resolved. At the previous hearing, the court had requested a certificate on the progress of the case.

The prosecutor’s proposal was supported by the majority of the lawyers representing victims of the Tempi railway tragedy in support of the prosecution. However, some victims’ lawyers disagreed, calling for the auditor’s trial to proceed.

The charge of breach of duty relates to an allegedly improper investigation conducted by auditors into the implementation of ERGOSE Contract 717. The contract concerned the upgrade of signalling and remote control systems on the Athens-Thessaloniki-Promachonas railway line.

The case concerns a report prepared by the auditor together with another colleague, who is no longer alive. The report related to the implementation of ERGOSE Contract 717, which provided for upgrades to signalling and remote control along the Athens-Thessaloniki-Promachonas railway line.

According to the charge against the auditor, the investigation was flawed and was conducted in a way that ultimately served the perpetrators, preventing accountability for a project that remained inactive for many years.

During the hearing, the majority of lawyers representing victims of the Tempi tragedy agreed with the prosecutor’s recommendation. However, some of the victims’ lawyers dissented, requesting that the trial proceed as normal.
