A total of four requests have so far been submitted by lawyers supporting the charges. At the previous hearing of the Three-Member Criminal Appeals Court of Larissa, the prosecutor proposed that the two specific requests be rejected. Statements by the defendants’ lawyers are expected to follow and to be completed today.
Lawyers supporting the charges will then respond to the prosecutor’s proposal, before the court is expected to issue its decision.
The first requests to be rejected concerned the transmission of the trial minutes to the special Supreme Court investigator handling the case of the then transport minister Costas Achilleas Karamanlis, as well as the submission of a communication document between the State Legal Council and former deputy transport minister Costas Kyranakis regarding the representation of the Greek state.
According to the details of the proceedings, the state has declared an appearance in support of the charges for only four of the 36 defendants: the three stationmasters on the afternoon-evening shift of 28 February 2023 and the then head of the Larissa Inspection Department of the Traffic Support Service for Central and Southern Greece’s railways.
Relatives of the victims, the injured and passengers of the Intercity 62 train are also present in court in support of the prosecution.
