The reductions agreed so far average 7%, while the list of participating products is expected to expand from around 1,100 to as many as 1,500 product codes.
According to ERT, the list has largely been finalised. Market sources said suppliers are offering reductions of around 5%, while supermarkets are adding a further discount of approximately 1.5% to 2%.
The list is expected to expand further before the measure comes into effect. The Ministry of Development estimates that an additional 200 to 300 product codes could be added by 31 August.
At present, the agreement covers around 1,100 product codes. If those estimates are confirmed, the total could rise to as many as 1,500.
Products covered by the agreement include meat, dairy products, eggs, pasta, baby food, coffee, detergents and school supplies.
The scheme therefore covers a range of basic household needs, including food, everyday household goods and school-related expenses.
Around 60 suppliers have expressed their intention to participate in the agreement, with another four or five expected to join.
