The suspect remains hospitalised and is expected to be discharged before being brought before the competent judicial authorities to give his formal statement.
According to available information, the man initially remained silent and did not respond to investigators’ questions. He later reportedly admitted to killing his estranged wife, claiming that he ‘lost control’ and did not know what he was doing.
The killing took place inside the family home in the presence of the couple’s two children, their 19-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter.
The 44-year-old had been working seasonally on the island of Thassos and had returned to the village to spend time with her family and be close to her daughter.
According to information available so far, her estranged husband went to the house, where a heated argument broke out between them.
At some point, the man allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the 44-year-old, causing a serious injury to her lung.
The wound caused severe bleeding and the woman died within minutes.
The victim had previously reported her estranged husband for domestic violence and had recently asked that they remain separated.
