Vance’s remarks came in an interview excerpt scheduled to air on Saturday on CBS Evening News, following Guilfoyle’s removal from her post as US ambassador to Greece.
According to the reports raised during the interview, Guilfoyle allegedly asked a man seeking assistance from the Trump administration to transfer $100,000 to her bank account.
Asked about the allegations, Vance said that if someone was selling access to the White House, such conduct was ‘disgusting and despicable’ and that anyone involved should face the consequences.
However, the US vice-president clarified that he did not want to form an opinion based on a random article he had read, but preferred to assess the facts. He therefore avoided directly endorsing the allegations against Guilfoyle.
Towards the end of the interview, the journalist asked whether the US administration would comply with any subpoenas issued in connection with the case.
‘Of course I will comply. We abide by the law, I abide by the law’, Vance replied.
