The individuals were found in two apartment hideouts in which numerous military grade weapons were stashed and are believed to be high-ranking members of the guerilla group DHKP-C (the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Front). According to the newspaper which cited unnamed sources, the operation in Gizi was the product of collaboration between the three countries which began after an attack was carried out by the group on the American embassy in Ankara last year.
Furthermore, according to the Hurriyet’s sources, a five-member team of Turkish officials as well as agents from the FBI and the CIA will be present during the interrogation of the suspects who are expected to testify before at the Athens Prosecutor’s Office tomorrow. According to the newspaper it is also expected that Ankara will file a repatriation request for the suspects following the Greek judicial process.
Meanwhile according to reporting by To Vima, all of the suspects refused to give statements to police. Their attorney also claimed that they were beaten by officers and had DNA samples taken under coercion.
