The video was produced by the group 'Greek Youth Revolution' and has received over 35,000 hits on Youtube in a week. 'Some mistakes are irreversible,' the filmakers write at the end 'act for your right to be human.' They are demanding that parliament take a stand against the operation which is due to take place in the coming months in international waters southwest of Crete.
It will see the destruction via the method of hydrolysis of Syria's most toxic chemical wapons. The American military and the UN's Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons maintain that no substances will be released into the environment. However those against the operation, including Greek scientists, have pointed out that it is the first time that hydrolysis at sea is being attempted and fear the consequences of an accident. They also question why the operation is being done far out at sea if it is indeed so safe.
The young filmakers point out that those conducting the operation, by their own admission, have no assessment of the risks posed to people and the environment.
