In this context and with the slogan ‘A Family Affair” the Pride Festival 2014 will take place on Saturday at 19.00 in Klafthmonos Square.

Athens Pride 2014 will bring to the forefront the demand for equal rights when it comes to the creation of legally recognized families.

“The Greek state continues to deny us this right. It is denying equality even after the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights on the 7th of November 2013, according to which Greece has violated the European Convention on Human Rights by denying same sex couples the right to form civil unions.”

In a statement, the organisers of the Festival write:“Equal access to family law constitutes a fundamental obligation of a modern democracy. The exclusion of citizens from the right to form civil unions, to get married, to have children, or to adopt due to their sexual orientations or gender identities means their effective and selective exclusion from protections provided by the state and the denial of security that that entails. It leads to less stability in personal lives and adds emotional as well as financial burdens.”

With the slogan “A family affair,” Athens Pride 2014 seeks to broaden society’s acceptance of different types of family. The poster for the festival features the archetypal couple as Adam and Adam united with their child, Eros, as a paradigmatic LGBT family.
