On Tuesday, after his highly accusatory statements against the Greek government Mr. Juncker spoke to both the French Prime Minister, F. Hollande and the German Chancellor A. Merkel.  Both European leaders have clarified that while the institutions will be holding the talks with the Greek side, they don’t wish to see Greece abandon the Eurozone.

On Wednesday Mr. Juncker spoke with the Greek Prime Minister and he appears to have offered alternative solutions about the measures that Greece should take regarding its problematic pension system.  While the most recent demands from the institutions seemed extremely harsh, Mr., Juncker is said to have offered Greece the opportunity to cut back on the early retirement schemes and revisit the subject at a later time.  The president of the EU also proposed that Greece cuts back on its military budget.

On the other hand, the President of the Eurogroup chose a stricter stance.   On Wednesday, just a day before the meeting of the finance ministers of the Eurozone,   J.Djiselbloem repeated that “It is up to the Greeks to submit alternative solutions.  Time is running out but an agreement is still possible”

According to euro2day.gr, J.C Juncker believes that if the Greek government accepts these new, lighter proposals, he will be able to convince the rest of the Eurozone  and that will also force the IMF to comply.  If, on the other hand, Greece doesn’t agree to these new measures it will drive itself outside the Eurozone
