The German FinMin referred to A.Tsipra΄s statements concerning the participation of the IMF in the third Greek bailout program. Schauble called for Greece to show restrain when talking about that issue. The spokeswoman for the Greek government answered with an ironic remark; it is a good think that the German Minister is striving to keep things intact, she said and reminded that the Greek government is the one which will decide on the country΄s best interests
“It is not in Greece's interest” to question the participation of the IMF in the bailout program, said Dr.Schauble. This statement, made at the EcoFin followed the Greek PM's previous statement that the IMF plays no constructive part in the program.
Schauble has also expressed his skepticism on the plans by the European Commission for a bank deposit guarantee scheme. His position is that such a scheme should be discussed at a later time and it should cover coop and savings banks.
The Greek spokeswoman, O.Gerovasili noted that the people of Europe have, by now, understood on which side everybody stands. “We expect the German Ministry of Finance to distance itself from the unacceptable hard stance of the IMF. Europe should be capable of solving its own problems on its own”.
