The Slovenian Police issued a statement according to which the Chiefs of Police are “obliged to limit the daily number of crossings via the countries of the Western Balkans to an amount that will allow for every refugee to be checked according to the Schengen directives”.
Earlier on the Serbian Foreign Minister, Nebojsa Stefanovic had stated that the daily number of refugees that will be allowed through Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia will not exceed 500. He clarified that his country had been notified, in writing, concerning the decision of Croatia which had, before that, been notified by Slovenia. He went on to explain that this decision forces Serbia to follow the same tactic and allow only 500 refugees through her borders per day.
The number of refugees that these countries have decided to allow through their borders is significantly smaller than the number of people who wish to move further into Europe.
According to the EC spokesperson for Migration, Natasha Bertaud, The European Commission is preparing an Emergency Plan in order to “prevent humanitarian crisis in Greece” due to the latest developments in the migrant crisis.
