The number of migrants stranded in the port of Pireus has risen to 5745 souls. Many of them are finding temporary shelter in tents set in the public areas of the port
At the moment, there are 1100 tents standing in the various port stations and public spaces. Yesterday a meeting was held in the Ministry of Naval Affairs where it was decided that pamphlets would be distributed to the migrants. The pamphlets will explain why they would have to start leaving their temporary shelters in the port. They will also inform the migrants that the northern borders of Greece towards central Europe are now closed and explain that they will have to follow different procedures as these will be dictated by the Ministry of Migrant Policy. It was also decided that interpreters will be assisting in the whole attempt.
A number of migrants will be moved to a new space that has been organized in Eleonas, Athens while some others will be sent to a tourist centre in Kilini which has the capacity to accommodate around 1300 people. A bigger centre is going to be built in Skaramagas, where even more migrants are expected to be accommodated.
Calm in Idomeni
Beside the incidents which occurred in Idomeni on Tuesday in neutral zone between Greece-FYROM the situation seems to have calmed down at the moment. A number of migrants declare that they are decided to stay at the borders “until the end” as they believe that this is the only way to put pressure and achieve a new opening of the borders. The migrants have occupied the tracks of the railroad for the past 12 days.
