According to the data of the Greek office for the coordination of the response to the refugee crisis, there are 51.393 refugees and migrants right now all over Greece. About 5.700 persons are still on the Aegean islands; some 400 of them arrived earlier today. About 12.000 people are still trapped in Idomeni.

In Attica 14.960 refugees are hosted, out of whom almost 6.000 are still staying at the port of Piraeus. This morning, an effort to move families from Piraeus, where they stay in tents, in overcrowded facilities, started.

The government hopes this will also put an end to violent fights among different ethnic groups of the population, as it happened last night. Gate E2 of Piraeus port turned into a battlefield between Syrians and Afghans yesterday; soon the fight spread into gate E1. Eight people were transferred to a nearby local hospital because of their non critical injuries. Some windows were also broken and police forces were patrolling the area until earlier today.

Meanwhile, based on the agreement reached between the European Union and Ankara, next Monday the returns of migrants from Greece to Turkey should begin. However, as Reuters points out, “both sides seem unready” to follow through with their commitments. One of the key issues is the treatment of non Syrian asylum seekers who will be going back to Turkey.
