Regarding a recent report by the European Parliament that focuses on Turkey’s poor record on human rights and media freedom, Erdogan said it is “provocative” at a time when relations with Europe are on a good track.
The European Parliament approved last week its annual progress report on Turkey, that criticized Ankara's record on rights and press freedom in 2015. Turkey is also a candidate state for European Union membership.
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan comments fully contradict Prime Minister’s Davutoglu remarks on the new Turkish constitution. He said European human rights agreements will form the basis of Turkey's new constitution, which will replace the existing charter that dates back to the period after a 1980 military coup.
Critics fear that the ruling party’s motive is the concentration of power in the hands of President Tayyip Erdogan.
