Without reforms the Greek debt is not going to become viable, even after an aggressive relief, those were the words of a high IMF official who went on to note that if Greece fails to imply the program, no relief will be provided
While speaking to Washington reporters, the official claimed that the IMF does not agree with the other institution's estimations of the viability of the Greek debt, but insist on ots own.
We are not yet in a position when the IMF can say, “we are ready to go forward”, but, I believe that we can get there by the end of the year” said the official after the end of the Eurogroup.
More guarantees
The official noted that the IMF is not going to participate to the program until it gets the necessary guarantees concerning the lightening of the Greek debt.
He went on to state that “Greece is in a situation when it needs a tranche and we are certainly ready to make concessions. Still we have not stepped back from our position that we need additional guarantees concerning a lightening of its debt.” The member of the IMF staff asked not to be named.
