Labour MPs have overwhelmingly passed a motion of no-confidence in party leader Jeremy Corbyn on Tuesday afternoon.
The motion had 172 votes for and 40 votes against it, with 6 abstentions.
The motion for a no-confidence vote was introduced after numerous resignations from Corbyn’s own shadow cabinet after the Brexit referendum results last week, and calls upon the Labour leader to resign himself. While the vote is not legally binding, analysts point out that Corbyn may expect a leadership challenge within his ranks soon.
