A powerful explosion shook the capital of Afghanistan at 0130 this Monday. Due to the explosion many several areas of the city were left without power yet the shortages were quickly dealt with.
The explosion took place at the eastern part of the city, in the area of Pul-e Charkhi. A wired truck detonated at the Northgate hotel. The hotel is a guarded complex which is used by western military official as well as several diplomats and private organizations.
Right after the explosion, four armed men are said to have attempted to reach the hotel. A shooting battle ensued between the men and security forces. According to local security forces at least one police officer and all the assailants fell dead after a 6 hour shootout.
There are no casualties reported among 46 people, staff and guests at the complex.
TOLOnews reported that the Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.
