According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the World Food Programme (WFP), more that 56 million people in 17 countries are suffering from hunger. More than half of the Yemen population is suffering from famine.
According to reports by those organizations the countries which face the gravest problems are Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, Iraq, Burundi, Central African Republic, People’s Republic of Congo, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Somalia, South Soudan, Haiti, Colombia, and Afghanistan.
The UN published a series of data on the populations which are under such strains and as well as the effect of conflict on nutrition security.
-A famine crisis is affecting 14ml people in Yemen, that is more than 50% of the country’s population.
-Almost 5ml. South Soudanese and 8.7ml Syrian are in immediate need of food and other aid.
-Almost 50% of the population of Burundi, and Haiti as well as half the population of the Central African Republic are facing a nutrition crisis.
-Almost 50% of all the poor people live in areas which are affected by conflict and violence.
-The countries which are recovering from conflict during which people did not have sufficient food are running a 40% higher risk to slide back into crisis within 10 years should the famine not be efficiently dealt with.
