The journalists to be arrested include the prominent conservative Nazli Ulucak, who once applied to be an AKP PM in 2011; but was increasingly critical of Erdogan and the anti-Gulenist operations preceeding the coup attempt.

The arrest warrant for journalists was joined by an operation in five municipalities resulting in the arrests of 31 academics. Turkish daily Milliyet reports that “a large amount of organizational documents and digital material” were found by the police during the operation. The academics are still under questioning at police stations in Istanbul, Tekirdag, Denizli, Kocaeli and Kirklareli.
