The penalties were regarding campaign finance irregularities, such as exceeding set cost limits, inability to justify the provenance of campaign funds and omitting to properly file expenses on an online platform.

The most prominent politician called to order, is current health minister Adonis Georgiadis, who is set to pay €12,903. In 2010 he was a candidate for the prefecture of Attica, the province of Athens.

Yiannis Dimaras, a member of the Attica prefecture council, was fined €50,000, and was struck from office because the Attica prefecture oversight committee found that he had been in violation of campaign finance procedure. Other local politicians, like the mayor of the municipality of Byron, southern Athens, who were called to pay higher fines than Mr. Dimaras, will remain in office. Mr. Dimaras, a former MP, is also the leader of the Citizens' Chariot party.

The member of government whose job is to oversee the imposition of the fines, was fined himself. Dimitris Kalogeropoulos, General Secretary for Decentralized Administration, has to pay €24,550 for transgressions during his candidacy for mayor of Egaleo municipality, western Athens.
