The home affairs ministers of Germany, France and the UK have asked Mr.Juncker for a meeting in order to “deal with the challenge from the migrant influx”.

The number of migrants who are reaching EU borders, have surpassed 100,000 in July alone and, in total, more than 340,000 this year so far. Italy and Greece are among the most heavily hit by the massive wave of people fleeing from war and poverty.

The French, British and German ministers have asked for a list of “safe countries of origin” which would be sufficiently prepared to accept and register new arrivals as well as fast-track asylum applications by specific nationalities.

Germany in particular is most eager for creating such a list. The country is expecting more than 800,000 asylum seekers.

Italy's PM expressed the hope that Europe will come up with a common plan in order to deal with the problem rather than continue being “every country with its own policy”.
