According to a Eurostat Newsrelease The risk of poverty or social exclusion affected 1 in 4 persons in the EU in 2014. In numbers this means that 122 million persons have been in this situation in the EU.
In Greece, this proportion raises to 1 in 3. More specifically 22.1% live in conditions of poverty, while 21,5% are severely materially deprived. 17,2% live in a family with very low work intensity. In Greece, 36% of the population is facing one or more of these situations while the EU average is 24,4%.
The two countries which are in a worst place than Greece are Rumania (40,2% living in poverty and/or social exclusion) and Bulgaria with 40.1% of the population living under such conditions.
