In his appearance, an obviously exhausted and weary leader explained that the negotiations had come to a point where the creditors' proposals could not be accepted by just the government.  ''These proposals demonstrate our creditors' obsession with austerity, particularly the IMF…We will answer their ultimatum with the sovereign opinion of the Greek people”

He implored the people to vote on July 5 united and calm while he finished by saying: “We remain in the Euro, we remain in Europe.  If the Greek people want something else, they should say so”.
