“The president will conclude his travel by visiting Germany, where, as previously announced, he will participate in the Hannover Messe -the world’s largest trade show for industrial technology- and meet Chancellor Angela Merkel” the White House announced in a release on Wednesday.

Charles Kupchan, senior director for European Affairs at the White House national security council said the two leaders will discuss regarding the response to the refugee crisis and the dynamics of the Greek economy. More in particular, the sustainability of the Greek debt and the target of the budget surplus.

Regarding the refugee crisis, Mr. Kupchan said that the U.S. government is seeking to work with Greece separately, as there is the belief that Greece is bearing an excessive burden in managing the refugee crisis in Europe. He also praised Angela Merkel for her response to the crisis stating that she has played a bold leading role.
