I personally received threats also before the previous flotilla trip. I was then told, per telephone, that I am cooperating with terrorists and that I will pay for it. Then someone damaged my car. Those are small moves that want to make you think twice. This time, one month before departure, this was something we didn’t want to talk about too much, so as not to create too much anxiety or sort of panic, what happened was that they chained to my house door a dismembered doll in a cart. The way the doll was dressed was very well taken care of. I was away for 2-3 days and when I came back I found it there. We have pictures, we have it. It was plastered with bandages, a terrible sight. What could this mean, after last time? Last time the toll was a broken leg and four broken ribs. Does it mean they want to escalate their reaction? We will see. We must go to Gaza.
We have family, we have children, and we love them, we have friends and we love our life. Whatever we do is because we love life, but not just our own life. Everybody’s life. And life means life in itself but it also means values that make you feel good, that make you feel human. For all these reasons, for us to continue to live as humans we ll go till the end. Just like this, on this boat, we ll go all the way to the shores of Gaza. We ll set foot there, we ll shake hands, we ll hug.
Let them decide what is in their best interests. We do not want winners or losers. If they think they ve won because they blocked nine ships out of ten, they can keep their joy. If they think that by neutralizing the tenth ship their victory is total, let them. It wont be a victory. Historically, victory finds its own ways. Historically, victory has its own sense of time. And in any case, the demand is not for victory in this particular small scale confrontation. We want the Palestinians who have endured for so long, who are struggling to see ships in their seas, to win, so that this naval blockade ends. This blockade that no Greek and in particular no Greek coming from the islands would ever tolerate.
