Editorial: We must not put a gang in charge of developments

If it is true that as Francois Mitterrand said politics is the ‘management of symbols’, and the ‘art of the possible’ then surely something is wrong and must be corrected immediately as time is the ultimate arbiter and ultimately determines success or failure. With everything that is currently occurring it is clear that particularly in the management of symbols there is an enormous deficiency, if not abuse, with the result that the successful administration and boldness shown by this government over the past two years is in danger of being destroyed.

From the edge of the abyss and the realm of destruction through sacrifices, pain and a demonstration of maturity from the majority of citizens we have come to within a step of emerging from the dark tunnel that overshadows ever creative force in the country. It would be a heavy shame and grave historical error, at a time when we are about to breathe a sigh of relief as a country and a society, to slip back because some unconscionably took advantage of the trust placed in them by the Prime Minister and formed ugly and unholy alliances.

The Ericsson bribes went to Swiss banks

The three bribes which were paid by Ericsson between January 2000 and 2011 to Greek politicians and officials for the airborne radars of the Hellenic Air Force were deposited in the Swiss bank accounts of a retired military official, as has been revealed by an executive of the Swedish colossus. The millions of euros were transferred to the accounts via a Liberian company in Monaco.

Lamda Development pushes for a casino at Hellinikon!

Construction work at the site of the former airport in Hellinikon will begin in 2015, while Lamda Development is pressing to be given a casino license or there is a danger that it will withdraw from the project. That is what the administration of the Hellenic Asset Development Fund maintained yesterday, admitting at the same time that the target for privatizations has been cut to 1.5 billion euros from the initial plan of 3.65 billion. In any case, we will see the first funds from the privatization of Hellinikon at the end of 2015 at best.

The big ‘gamble’

There are positive conditions for the country’s return to debt markets

It is a matter of days for the issuance of Greek government bonds with a 'surprise' interest rate

  • Today’s evaluation of Greece by Moody’s is decisive.
  • Morgan Stanley is optimistic for the successful issuance of bonds with a 5.5% interest rate.
  • Giannis Stournaras: Greece is turning the page. The date of the issuance will be determined by the markets.
  • The return of 30 year bonds drops below 6% after four years.
