The New 2014 Property Tax

– Tax on transfers reduced to 3%
– Statements for workers and pensioners due February – April

The tax on property ownership is becoming permanent. It will be paid in monthly installments and paid off by December. The draft legislation has been put before parliament. The government hopes that it will be voted on before Christmas.

During his meeting with the European Commissioner yesterday in Brussels, Syriza leader Alexis Tsipras used the same phrase Olli Rehn had directed at Greeks when the Memorandum agreement was established. Mr Tsipras’s warning came over the potential insistence of the Commission that Memorandum policies be continued – in particular regarding the demand that the ban on auctions of foreclosed homes be lifted.

Pissarides: The Euro is a mistake: we are losing a generation


The euro created a lost generation of unemployed young people and a divided Europe the Nobel prize winning economist Christoforos Pissarides now maintains, formerly one of the enthusiastic proponents of the adoption of the common currency.
