Maximos Megaron insists: Elections will be held no earlier than 2016

Following the latest loss of Vyron Polydoras who was written off New Democracy, the thin majority of 153 MPs and the snap election scenarios being talked about not least because of PASOK’s internal instability, the government sent a message of political stability just before the end of a very difficult year.
“Elections will be held in 2016”, said a top-level source. “This is the way it goes. Scenarios flare up, then they die down, then new ones come up…Elections will be held in 2016”. The source went so far as to mention SYRIZA’s possible move to block the 2015 election for a new President of the Republic [which would trigger Parliamentary elections], saying: “Denial comes with responsibility. And the Greek people understand that.”
As for PASOK’s turmoil, the source said that “The understanding that the country is above everyone else exists” to explain that the government’s unity is not at stake.
