A damning report from the International Labour Organisation

A report by the International Labour Organisation has catalogued in Greece conditions similar to those in Bangladesh and our country – just as the aforementioned Asian country and another four – has been called to answer for infringements of fundamental worker rights at the 103rd Session of the International Labour Conference which begins today in Geneva. The European leadership searches for the new ‘prescription’ for growth

The electoral shock is expected to trigger dramatic changes

At yesterday’s EU summit meeting a large number of European leaders urgently demanded an immediate change of course in economic policy, with the aim of promoting growth and raising employment levels. What is certain is that the shock of Sunday’s European elections with the unprecedented increase in power of extreme anti-european parties will trigger rapid changes in the EU from now until the upcoming EU summit on the 26-27th of June. The leaders acknowledge that the greatest obstacle in Europe is unemployment but the problem has less to do with the diagnosis than with the ‘prescription’ to combat the problem. France and Italy are demanding a common approach to combat unemployment at a European level while Angela Merkel is insisting on the position of improving competitiveness and the continuation of reforms.
