The Greek church has received more money from the state to pay the salaries of clerics compared to 2013, according to a report in Romfea.gr (link in Greek) religious news site,which described the priests as the ‘lucky ones’ of the year

Citing statistic from the finance ministry, the site said that the money allocated to pay the wages of clerics from January to November 2014 had increased compared to other state-funded categories. More specifically the church received €177 million, up from €132 million in 2013.

State funds for hospital staff wages dropped to €2bln from €2bln in 2013 while funds for staff at state-run higher education were reduced  to €535 million from €579 million.
