Among the most politically charged points was his reference to the dismantling of an alleged extortion and bribery ring in Athens’ urban planning department. Mitsotakis presented the case as proof of the government’s determination to fight corruption, arguing that ‘there are no untouchables’ and linking the case to the planned transfer of building permit responsibilities from municipal services to the new digital Land Registry.

However, he made no reference to the political controversy surrounding the case, including opposition claims about the involvement of individuals connected to New Democracy.

On migration, the prime minister defended Greece’s alignment with the new European Pact on Migration and Asylum, emphasising stricter border protection, faster asylum procedures and plans for ‘return hubs’ in third countries outside the EU. The policy has already drawn criticism from opposition parties and rights organisations over its implications for refugees and migrants.

Mitsotakis also highlighted reforms in the National Health System, including the expansion of telemedicine, digital patient tracking in emergency departments and a national strategy for palliative care. He avoided, however, addressing ongoing complaints about staff shortages, long waiting times and operational problems in hospitals and health centres.

The review also referred to the sixth anniversary of gov.gr, the licensing framework for regional television stations, the launch of 1,000 new jobs for people with disabilities in the regions, railway signalling on the Thessaloniki-Idomeni section, the opening of Pavlos Melas Metropolitan Park in Thessaloniki and Greece’s selection as honoured country at the Cannes Film Festival’s Marché du Film in 2027.
