Samples taken from three livestock farms in Nea Samsounta tested positive, confirming the emergence of sheep and goat pox in Epirus.
Under the current disease management measures, livestock on affected farms will be culled.
In a post, the regional governor of Epirus, Alexandros Kahrimanis, appealed to livestock farmers to strictly follow biosecurity measures, asking that the movement of people, vehicles and animals to and from livestock units be kept to an absolute minimum.
At the same time, veterinary services are calling on producers to carry out daily checks on their herds for any suspicious symptoms and to immediately inform the competent authorities of any suspected case, in order to prevent the disease from spreading further.
