With the departure of these MPs, SYRIZA now matches PASOK in terms of parliamentary representation, though it retains its role as the official opposition due to a higher percentage in the national elections.

On Saturday, Stefanos Kasselakis announced the formation of a new political party, following his own exit from SYRIZA on Friday. The announcement came alongside news that Evangelos Antonaros had also left SYRIZA. Kasselakis, the former president of SYRIZA-PS, vowed to take immediate legal action against what he termed “slanderers and mudslingers.”

In response, SYRIZA presidential candidates and the president of the central committee denounced what they called an attempt to “dismantle” the party, urging MPs considering independence to reconsider, warning that any such departure would amount to “apostasy” and would be judged by history.

MP Yiota Poulou also announced her resignation from the SYRIZA party but stated she would remain within the parliamentary group to avoid weakening SYRIZA’s role as the official opposition. Meanwhile, according to sources from ERT, MPs Giorgos Gavrilos and Yiannis Sarakiotis are expected to meet with SYRIZA’s central committee president, Nikos Pappas, to discuss resigning from their roles as department heads within the party, though they intend to remain with the parliamentary group.

Theodora Tzakri has indicated she will resign from her role as secretary of the central committee and other party positions, although she plans to stay within the parliamentary group, at least until the establishment of Kasselakis’s new party.
