Famellos accused the government of trying to cover up the scandal and warned that the opposition would not allow ‘another parliamentary coup to be staged’.

‘Mr Mitsotakis is afraid of the truth about the wiretapping scandal and is doing everything he can to avoid his responsibilities,’ Famellos said in a statement.

‘We were informed today that instead of summoning Dilian and Dimitriadis to parliament over the wiretapping scandal, despite the required request by two-fifths of the committee’s members, a so-called “discussion and decision-making” process is being planned in parliament’s Institutions Committee,’ he said.

Famellos described this as part of ‘Mitsotakis’ clear plan’, adding: ‘He wants to cover up the wiretapping scandal, violating parliament’s Rules of Procedure.’

‘By what right will he ban the summoning of Dimitriadis, who confessed that he “took political responsibility for the scandal for the good of the party”? By what right will he ban the summoning of Dilian, who, according to reports, states that he has a cooperation agreement with the Greek National Intelligence Service (EYP) for Predator?’ Famellos asked.

He also referred to what he described as ‘the new shocking revelation that even SYRIZA MEP Stelios Kouloglou was entrapped in 2022 while investigating the surveillance scandal as a member of the European Parliament’s PEGA committee’.

‘We warn Mr Mitsotakis: We will not let you orchestrate another parliamentary coup, as you do every time you want to cover up your government’s scandals,’ Famellos said.

‘Those responsible will be revealed, no matter how high up they are. And responsibility will be assigned, first of all by the Greek people.’
