Yanis Varoufakis is no stranger to talking about economics on television. Here he is in 1993 on an Australian news program talking about Greece's economy. At the time, Greece also underwent an election which led to the downfall of the New Democracy government, led by Kostantinos Mitsotakis.

Mr. Varoufakis criticises the Mitsotakis government for enacting austerity measures to deal with economic difficulties the country faced at the time, saying the public sector has grown even more and so has the budget deficit. He also spoke of whether a new generation would emerge to bring new blood into the leadership of Greece, as both main party leaders were well into their seventies.
He said also that an economic decline since the 1970s did not look to continue, saying, “I think all the signs are not pessimistic on that front.
