Discussing the escalating tensions in the Middle East, Meimarakis expressed his concerns, hoping for restraint and a cessation of hostilities. He underscored the importance of vigilance in defending principles, values, and territorial integrity at this critical time. “Already in Europe, the competent institutions are meeting to examine the very serious situation and the next steps, which we hope and wish that reason and peace will prevail,” he noted.
Highlighting Greece’s role within international alliances, he added, “Greece is a member state of NATO and an active member of the EU. This means that, if asked, we must respond to help secure peace even faster. Everyone must understand that we will defend our principles, our values, the Western way of life and be ready to “get up from the couch” and be the first to enter the front line of the battle.”
