“Punish the murderers of Mohamed Kamran. The government bears responsibility for his death,” the statement reads. “Pylos, Tempe, Agios Panteleimonas—these tragedies are not isolated. They are part of the government’s broader pattern of negligence and brutality.”

The statement continues: “We extend our condolences to Mohamed Kamran’s mother, wife, and three children. His death, following days of torture at the Agios Panteleimonas police station, is a horrific, racist crime. Only days later, Mia Harizoul was found hanged in police custody at Omonia Police Department.”

The group strongly condemns the government’s policies, which they say have dehumanised immigrants and refugees, leading to their systemic targeting by law enforcement. “This government is responsible not only for the crimes committed in police custody but also for the tragedy in Pylos, where over 600 refugees drowned, and for the deaths in the Tempe railway disaster.”

They argue that, while public services like the NHS and education are being ravaged and essential resources such as energy and water are privatised, billions are being spent on border militarisation and refugee persecution. “The government is trying to divert public anger towards immigrants and refugees, scapegoating them for the degradation of our lives,” they warn.

The statement also links these issues to broader geopolitical concerns, accusing the Greek government of turning a blind eye to the genocide of Palestinians and empowering the far right and fascists across Greece and Europe. “We must stand against these murderous policies at the borders of fortress Europe,” they declare. “The lives of refugees and migrants matter.”

The group concludes with a strong call to action: “Punish the murderers of Mohamed Kamran. Let there be no cover-up, as the government and police leadership are already attempting. Join us in the rally this Saturday, October 12, at 2:30 p.m. in Victoria Square, and let our voices be heard.”
