"An order was given—not just to record the number of those admitted, but to list their full names in detail," report staff at Attikon Hospital, questioning, "Who issued this order?", "By what right?" and "What purpose does this information serve, if not document the identities of protesters who were victims of police violence?"

They state in their declaration:

“Anyone who thinks hospitals are mere extensions of the police headquarters is gravely mistaken. We are healthcare professionals, not informants for the state. The fight continues, and we stand united as one!”

Full Statement:

“28th February 2025 will go down in history as the day of a massive general strike, with over a million people taking to the streets across the country. The message was clear: the people have no trust in the government, the establishment parties, the justice system, or state institutions. They demanded accountability for the crime at Tempe and chanted, “Your profits or our lives.”

Hundreds of our colleagues at Attikon Hospital joined the strike and the demonstrations—even though the hospital was on full emergency duty that day.

Following the powerful strike rally, and under government orders, police forces launched a brutal crackdown, unleashing tear gas and violence against demonstrators. The result? Hundreds of injuries—many of whom were transferred or made their way to Attikon Hospital for urgent medical care.

We have received dozens of reports that an “order” was issued to healthcare workers across all departments who were on emergency duty that day. The directive? To record the full names of all incoming patients who reported injuries from the protest—whether due to respiratory issues, blunt force trauma, or other conditions. Not just the number of cases, but their full names.

We publicly demand answers:

  1. Who issued this order? Was it solely the 2nd Health Region and the hospital administrator, or were they acting on instructions from higher-ups in the Ministry of Health and the government?
  2. By what right—violating medical confidentiality—are doctors and nurses being pressured to disclose patient details?
  3. What purpose does this information serve, if not document the identities of protesters who were victims of police violence?

Anyone who thinks hospitals are mere extensions of the police headquarters is gravely mistaken. We are healthcare professionals, not informants for the state. The fight continues, and we stand united as one!”
