Prosecutor examines 50 suspected cases of illegal farm subsidies
The audits identified instances of large-scale additions and deletions of agricultural plots declared on the E9 tax form during 2025, without sufficient or documented justification. According to the tax data, the individuals concerned are alleged to have received high levels of subsidies that are not supported by their real productive activity.
In total, around 3,000 cases involving owners and tenants of agricultural land are under examination. The first 50 cases, for which no lawful explanation has been established, have been submitted to the competent national and European prosecutorial authorities, as well as to OPEKEPE, to initiate procedures for exclusion from future payments and for recovery of the aid.
AADE reports that these 50 individuals together received more than 1 million euros in subsidies. The audits are ongoing and are being intensified through the use of digital tools, with the stated aim of identifying fraud and tax evasion in the agricultural sector.
